Fighting Chickens |
ARTIST STATEMENT
My artwork takes a creative view of chicken. I used acrylics to paint out the intense and variable color in my artwork. In my work, I demonstrates how chicken can have various moods depending on different situations. Chicken is part of my childhood memory. I grew up in China, living in a big and modern city called Shanghai. I went back to my father’s hometown to visit my paternal grandparents annually. The town is in a rural place in the countryside of China. One year, I was taken to visit a farm in the town, and that was the first time I saw chicken, alive chicken, chicken that are completely out of my imagination! Before I visited the farm on that day, I could never really form a complete lively image of a chicken in my head. The chicken on the farm had lots of emotions that I never thought they had, and there was that one scene that sticked on my mind for the longest time ever. I was wandering around in the farm when I suddenly saw 2 chickens fighting. I was so shocked and I stood there like a statue for over 20 minutes. I did not even realize when did the chicken leave; however, the colorful feathers of the the chicken and the interesting mood and movements they had stayed in my memory forever. |
