2020 Groff Exhibition

The California Art Education Association- San Diego is please to announce that the The 7th Annual Groff Exhibition will be in at the San Diego City College Gallery. The Groff Exhibition is a juried exhibition of the finest high school art in San Diego County.

Fee: NAEA Member Free, Non-Members $25 (https://www.caea-arteducation.org/membership) 

Timeline:    
*Art Call Submissions April 14-24, 2020 (https://groff2020.artcall.org) 6 entries per teacher
*May 29-June 6, 2020 Exhibition on view at San Diego City College Gallery, 1313 Park Blvd. San Diego
*Sat. June 6, 2020. Award Reception 1-3pm (awards beginning at 2:00 PM)

2019 Groff Exhibition Awards Announcement

​Congratulations to the following students and teachers for their Groff Exhibition 2018 awards. Once again, the jurors have been in awe at the level of creativity and skill being developed at the high school level throughout the different art disciplines. This year's jurors have highlighted the unique perspectives about the human condition both mentally and physically, along with indirect messages focused on current social, political, and economic influences.

Clay Artists of San Diego (CASD) Awards:

1st Place: Ringtail by Laurel Ridel of Canyon Crest Academy, Teacher Kimberly Lababit

2nd Place: Bud Vase by Nicole McDermott of Francis Parker, Teacher Steve Cook

3rd Place: Cactus Baby by Haier Yang of Westview, Teacher Hayley Filasky

4th Place: Lighthouse by Carolyn Kravets of Francis Parker, Teacher Steve Cook


Groff Awards:

Best in Show: Gender: An International History of the Medium by Lauren Kaase of Francis Parker Teacher, Steve Cook

Jurors' Choice # 1: Curiosity by Bonnie Yu of Cathedral Catholic High School, Teacher Amanda Packer

Jurors' Choice # 2:Luis by Sammely de Leon of San Ysidro High School, Teacher Daniel Solomon

Jurors' Choice # 3: Bus Stop by Grace Toyonaga of Canyon Crest Academy, Teacher Jessica Mortensen

May 10, 2018 - Deadline to submit artist’s statements electronically via Google Form 
May 11, 2018 - Works must be Deliverd to SDCE by 3:30pm 
May 14, 2018 - Exhibition Opens at the City College Gallery
May 17, 2018 - Educators Reception (time TBD)
May 27, 2018 - Closing Student Awards Reception (time TBD)
2014-2015 GROFF EXHIBITION
Entry Eligibility Rules
Teachers must be current members of CAEA-SDC to submit student artwork. Paid attendance at the 2017 Mega-Arts Conference included CAEA-SDC membership dues. To become a member, CLICK HERE IMPORTANT: We are currently in the process of changing our name from San Diego County Art Education Association to the California Art Education Association San Diego Chapter (CAEA-SD), however, Membership and Membership Requirements will remain the same as stated above for the 2018 Groff Exhibition.

  • Open to all media, no size restrictions, 2D, 3D and installation
  • Open to all High School students grades 9-12 in San Diego County
  • Entries must be submitted digitally by teachers for online jurying HERE

Work that makes use of photographs, published images, and or other artists works, must show creative development beyond duplication. This may be demonstrated through manipulation of formal qualities, design, and/or concept of the original work. It is unethical, constitutes plagiarism, and often violates copyright law to simply copy an image (even in another medium) that was created by someone else. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT STUDENT WORKS THAT ARE COPIES OF WORKS CREATED BY OTHER ARTISTS. Any works found to be in violation of this policy will be rejected from the show, even after the jury process.
