ARTIST STATEMENT
This portrait was inspired by the copious amounts of colorful powder that sat on my subjects skin like soft brushstrokes on an artists canvas. I was amazed by the marbleized pattern of pigment intertwined with each other within the patches of color on her skin The light shining through her hair illuminates different layers of color beneath the surface, making the subject more interesting. Flecks of the colorful powder floated off of her face and twinkled in the sunlight. I was mesmerized. With watercolor I was able to fully portray the spontaneity of the color splotches and the textures of her hair. The color, the light, and the smirk on her face all matched her “colorful” personality perfectly. The meaning of the portrait is a just a potential example of how personality and attitude is something that people wear, and can have just as much effect on appearance as clothing and hairstyle can.
