ARTIST STATEMENT
By drawing this piece in charcoal I had hoped to create a feeling for the viewer that would make them understand the vulnerability of the subject. There is no color in this drawing because I intended to illustrate a solum tone that would make the viewer focus on the meaning of the piece more than its aesthetics. This piece was inspired by my fascination of human anatomy and how each muscle intertwines and works together to move the structure of the body. The horns were an experiment to see how I could manipulate the body and add meaning. The inspiration, however, has next to nothing to do with the intended meaning. The horns were meant to symbolize a form of karma; where an evil thought grows from his mind and curls back around to strike him. The fetal position may also suggest an insecurity hidden under a layer of muscular protection.
