The title of this piece is ”Gyration”. My focus is the juxtaposition of gestural structures and circles. This series of work uses the symbolism of circles as a reference to the human soul. The circles visually interact with one another and are supported by linear structures that vary in form, color, value, and density. This represents the delicacy of connections within the human spirit and how spirits themselves interconnect. The working process incorporates intuitive mark making contrasted with the absolute nature of geometry. I was inspired by microscopic images of cells and tissue structures I studied during an internship at the Salk Institute. In addition, abstract drawing, painting, and installation interested me, including the work of Julie Mehretu, Brice Marden and James Turrell.
