ARTIST STATEMENT
“Don't Leave Me Hangin’” is a foreshortened artwork created using only charcoal. It began as just a picture taken of me laying on the floor. I was able to connect the photo to an Alice in Wonderland theme. The dirt-like weeds were added to the bottom of the drawing to perceive it as if I was falling into a hole in the ground, in reference to Alice falling into Wonderland. This relates to the idea that my perspective of art is similar to falling into a whole new world that is created by our own thoughts and imagination. Some may look at this artwork and see a girl reaching for help while others may focus only on the hand covering her face as a sign of hiding her identity. It is very difficult to narrow my inspirations of art to one single thing. However, I believe that what motivates me the most is the idea that a single piece of art can be viewed in a variety of different perspectives. |
