ARTIST STATEMENT
Looking into my childhood, I remember seeing the representation of flowers and thinking only of the beauty they possess and very little of the purpose that the painter had in creating this artwork. Never really asking myself: why flowers? Why would this artist immortalize simple flowers? Having the talent the artist had, why demonstrate flowers? After some time of long thought and research, I concluded that the purpose that many painters had was to demonstrate symbolism in their work. Symbolism such as religious beliefs, political criticism and many similar aspects such as these. I found that the main subject that is shown is the idea that life is very short and that beauty and youth are ultimately pointless matters because they don't last. I found that artists were trying to inspire the viewer to take advantage of the moment they have today by representing the fact that in any moment such tomorrow may not come. In my my artwork I wanted to create a tribute to that idea of enjoying your existence having the ability to look at the beauty of today. |
