ARTIST STATEMENT
As an artist I am inspired by the people and things around me. For this particular piece, “My Life in Tangles”, I was inspired by the darkness of the zentangles. I really wanted to do something more personal with this work and I thought that filling in the shadows of my face with tangles would do that. The tangles as the primary choice of shading represent how in the dark, complicated mess that makes up me, there is beauty. This piece relates to my personal story because it is a self-portrait intertwined with tangles, in which the tangles represent the beautiful mess of my complicated life. In my artwork, no matter the piece, I see myself in some way or another. I incorporate pieces of myself, whether it be my feelings or my actual self, I can always be seen in my work. This is a piece I really connected with and enjoyed making. I feel this piece has a lot of myself and emotions tied to it. |
