Introduction to lifeJONATHAN MAGANA

ARTIST STATEMENT
As a young Artist, life seems playful, beautiful, and stimulating. Recently however, as my highschool career continues, I’ve been getting a further introduction to life. This piece is done with markers and pencil on posterboard. Through colors and contrast I create a visual guide in which part of me is seeping into the background. With patterns, marks, and unique features I create a self portrait that reflects me and life. In my portrait I am creating my mark, a pattern that differentiates from the background to show my colorful, enjoyable outlook on life. The background represents all the dullness, hardness, and realistic expectations that life is trying to push on me. While keeping balance I allow myself some of those views to influence me, while influencing my views on life itself too. This is trying to say that I have a voice and a pattern, and the pattern i’m using is influencing the outside. Think about it; for example right now, i’m leaving a mark and connecting with the viewer through this piece.
