ARTIST STATEMENT
This painting of potstickers was an exploration of my personal culture and love of food. Food was something that I had never painted before, or even thought about painting, but given the chance to paint on a large surface, I thought that it would be a good chance to give it a try. Personally, I think that this image also reflects my Chinese-American culture, since potstickers are something that I grew up eating and enjoying at home. Potstickers will always remain a charming memory of my childhood. I don’t think food is a subject many artists reach for, but it’s something that we can universally bond over. The food we consume can really reveal who we are as people. I hope this painting gives some insight into my culture and who I am. The image is composed of acrylic paint and water based oil paint, in order to give a more multi-dimensional feel for the overall image. |
