ARTIST STATEMENT

I am an Eleventh grader at Morse High School, this is my second year in art. I have always enjoyed drawing and painting on my own, I can say that I am a self-taught artist. I find that when I am doing art, I feel a sense of being somewhere else. My favorite form of art is realism. I like drawing alongside my older sister who has influenced me as well as the Anime art form. This is a picture of my sister that my cousin took, while at Disneyland at the California Adventure. Since I enjoy studying and applying my observations of the face form, I was drawn to my sister’s expression of curiosity. I used a ratio drawing to make my work as accurate as I could. I was introduced to the Lee Hammond method of drawing Lifelike Portraits from Photographs that helped develop the value aspect in my composition.  I used a mechanical pencil with 2B lead, and Staedtler drawing pencils for a more variety of value.
