Del Norte High School

Every day I arrive at the Art Studio at Del Norte High School I am humbled and amazed by the level of work that my students produce.  I am the luckiest man in the World to be teaching such an amazing subject with such amazing students at such an amazing school.  Hannah Glovers’ piece that has been accepted into the Groff Exhibition is a prime example of the level of Artistry that is created at Del Norte High School.

Unfortunately, I cannot add a great deal of insight into this piece of Hannahs’ or how it was created due to the fact it was not a class project.  This is one of Hannahs’ pieces that she has created for her AP Studio Portfolio.

My approach to teaching Art is really two fold.  I strive to teach the, “academic” and technical side of Fine Art, but moreover I am passionate about teaching the love and the importance of Art in our lives and in society.  At the high school level I feel that it is my charge to open my students’ minds to the world of Art and all that it encompasses and provides us.  My ultimate goal is to change how my students’ view their World by connecting them through Art.  On the first day of class I tell my students that their main learning objective is to be open to new experiences, and to, “SEE” the beauty around them, not just on their electronic devices.

My fulfillment is when my students are filling out the course reflection and recommendations and they state that they do see the World in a different way, and through Art they have arrived at a new state of consciousness and awareness.
