ARTIST STATEMENT
I have been taking trips to downtown San Diego for the past couple of months. I find the city to be very photogenic, providing a large array of subjects and scenery all composed into a dense but diverse urban jungle. When I shoot in the city, I try to capture its large variety of intricate structures from a different, possibly unnoticed, view point. I also strive to capture the city’s movement; the blood that runs through the veins, or roads, of the city. Cars and trams bustle down the roads with a sense of beauty in their endless rush to arrive on time. Adjusting my camera to have a longer exposure allows me to catch these brisk, but elegant moments. For this shot in particular, I used a Sony Alpha a57 with a 11-16mm f2.8 lens.
Photography puts an artist in a very interesting spot. Beautiful, intriguing or emotional art pieces can be captured with the press of a single button, possibly making it one of the fastest ways to create art. I find the camera to be a tool of great measures, and am happy to know how to wield one. There’s something so compelling about being able to compose, create, and share my artwork in such a fast manner, that it’s exciting to find out what wonders I might capture next. |
