Maternal Love

ARTIST STATEMENT

My piece “Maternal Love” was inspired by the beauty of maternal instincts. I find the love and bond between a mother and her child to be one of the most wondrous and amazing connections in nature. I chose to portray this connection through the bond of a mother and baby giraffe because of the elegance and wisdom they behold.

I was able to depict the elegance of the mother giraffe through detailed line work. In contrast, I created the baby giraffe in bright realistic colors to represent his innocence. I incorporated a balance of vibrant color and black lines to create a well-unified space. The patterns in the intricate line work create movement across the piece as well as the flowers floating up through the background. With the elements of art and principles of design, I was able to create a representation of the beautiful instincts of motherhood.
