ARTIST STATEMENT
The figure, of a character tentatively called “the man made of gold,” overlooks a city; contemplative of his actions. He is designed with few facial features in order to be emphasized by his actions and situation more than his superficial description. In this scenario, the man made of gold, having ventured deep into the business world as an enterprising entrepreneur, realizes that he has been hurting people along the way. He journeys to the very top of a corporate building, disconnected, and meditates on the consequences of his actions and his feelings for the individuals in the city he controls. I use blurring effects and brush strokes of varying size in to emphasize details to be focused on. Splashes of unexpected color liven up the piece in an unobtrusive way, and great attention was made to the detail and physical accuracy of the lighting and shading. The particular pose held by the character is peculiar in its rigidness, yet his hand is being held softly to his face, indicative of the concern he expresses in the wake of his past stubbornness.
